She Doesn’t Just Make Idlis—She Makes the World a Little Softer

In a world where inflation rises and kindness often falls, one woman is quietly holding it all together—with just rice batter, a ladle, and a giant heart.
Meet M. Kamalathal, fondly called Idli Amma, a 90-year-old grandmother from Vadivelampalayam near Coimbatore, who has become a living legend—not for how much she earns, but for how much she gives.
She serves idlis for just ₹1, but what she’s really serving is hope on a banana leaf. She changed lives — not with noise, but with nourishment. A meal, a smile, a small act of care. Her Stove Burns with Purpose, Not Just Flame

Every day, before the world stirs, she’s already awake—grinding batter, chopping chilies, preparing chutney, and lighting her firewood stove. All this to ensure that no labourer, no worker, no hungry soul goes unfed.
She started this mission in her 60s, and decades later, she’s still at it. Why?
“They work so hard. Why should they go to bed hungry?” she says.
In those few words lives her philosophy: Everyone deserves dignity—even in hunger.

She Charges ₹1. But Delivers Lessons Worth Millions.

While the world moves to profit, Amma moves with purpose. She doesn’t own a restaurant. No staff. No marketing. No price hikes. Just one woman, a small shed, and an unshakable commitment to serve.
Industrialist Anand Mahindra once shared a video of Idli Amma making ₹1 idlis and was deeply moved. “Her work humbles us,” he tweeted, offering to fund an LPG stove for her in place of firewood. In April 2021, he took it a step further — announcing that Idli Amma would soon have her own house and kitchen.

Even when her story went viral, when the world finally noticed, and support poured in—she didn’t change. Fame never distracted her. Compassion still fuels her.

Not Just a Meal—A Movement

Idli Amma is not just feeding mouths. She’s nourishing humanity. Her life is a stirring reminder that you don’t need wealth, youth, or titles to make an impact. You just need a cause… and courage.
She proves that no dream is too small, and no act of love ever goes unnoticed.

From a small kitchen to national recognition — she changed lives with a plate of idlis. Follow @ageisjustanumbertv to meet everyday heroes redefining age with purpose.
