Savdhan Seniors – Unhealthy Food For Seniors

No love greater than the love for food. We know you agree with us 110%. As tasty as some food items might be, there are few foods items seniors should avoid eating for healthy living –

1. Raw or undercooked eggs, meat, and poultry.

Undercooked food such as eggs, meat, and poultry can cause food poisoning, which can trigger sepsis and septic shock. Anyone can develop these infections but after the age of 55, our immune system starts getting weak, thus more prone to infections or diseases.

2. Grapefruit.

If you are already taking pills for high blood pressure, anxiety or insomnia then Grapefruit is very dangerous for you. The reason behind this is that both Grapefruit and even its juice increase the effects of some medicines which can be harmful and have adverse effects on your health.

3. High-sodium foods.

Too much salt can cause health problems in seniors, especially if you have a history of hypertension. There are many healthy herbs and spices to add flavor to your food in place of table salt. According to the food experts from the National Academies of Sciences, Health and Medicine Division, 71+ seniors should limit their sodium intake to no more than 1.2 grams per day.

6. Alcoholic beverages.

Enjoying an occasional alcoholic beverage is harmless for many people, but if you have diabetes or taking pills like antihistamines, painkillers or high blood pressure then you should avoid alcohol at all costs.

Many healthy and tasty food items are now introduced in the market such as flavored oats, poha, etc. which will keep your taste buds satisfied and your body healthy.
