2. Telecommunication benefits:
Faults/complaints of senior citizens are prioritized by registering them under the senior citizens category with the VIP flag, which is a priority category.
Senior citizens are allowed to register telephone connections under N-OYT Special Category, which is a priority category.
MTNL in NCR offers a discount of 25% on the Rs. 250 per month Plan to subscribers above the age of 65 years.
Seniors citizens need not pay registration charges for BSNL Landline connections.

3. Senior Citizens Savings Scheme:
This Senior Citizens Savings Scheme is for people above the age of 60 years. The scheme has a maturity period of 5 years and you get an interest rate of 8.6% per annum. Any number of accounts can be opened in any post office subject to a maximum investment limit of Rs.15 lakh (total balance in all accounts). The accounts can also be jointly owned, but, with the spouse only. They can also be transferred from one post office to the other. The investment under this scheme qualifies for deduction under section 80C of the Income Tax Act, 1961.
